Does Prefab Work

Lets face it. Prefab building on the West Coast has a checkered history. Over the 40 years there have been waves of enthusiasm, followed by very little action. The media loves the idea, architects love the idea, even many consumers see it as cool and hip; but the reality is very little has happened over the past 40 years. There are been false starts, failures, and very few Prefab homes. Why? And why have I staked my future on now being the time? This is the question I want to explore in my first posts, as I lay out why I am so enthusiastic about the building method. To start with, I think as an industry we need to be honest with ourselves. We need to admit that Prefab is not the right answer for every construction project. In fact, to the contrary, there may be many projects where it doesn't make sense. But when we learn to identify where it does work and focus there, we'll taking the first, largest step towards success. So where do I think it works? More on that tomorrow...
